History
The ranch is located on a high mesa overlooking the Roaring Fork Valley called Missouri Heights. Missouri Heights was settled back in the 1800’s by ranching pioneers. They planted potatoes, hay, wheat, alfalfa and barley, and raised beef cattle and sheep. That is still the case for a few ranches today. The plateau is dotted by old potato cellars and school houses. The historic Missouri Heights Schoolhouse, near Stirling Ranch’s entrance, hosts meetings and events.

The charming town of Carbondale is 8 miles downvalley, where you’ll also find many fine restaurants and shops. Outdoor activities abound during both the winter and summer months. Glenwood Springs is 20 miles downvalley with world-renown hot springs, award winning hotels and the nicest hospital you’ve seen.
